🚗 Think twice before renting a car
Not "never." Just think it through, because the parking situation depends entirely on where you're staying.
Staying at a hotel? Check the parking fee before you book the car. Some downtown Newark hotels charge $20 to $40 a night for the privilege, which quietly turns a cheap rental into an expensive one.
Staying at an Airbnb? Street parking in Newark and East Orange often requires a residential permit, and visitor rules vary block by block. Ask your host about parking BEFORE you land at the counter at Hertz. It might be easy. It might be a nightly scavenger hunt.
The good news: you may not need the car at all. Manhattan is 20 minutes away by train. The arena is a walk from the station. The airport connection takes 10 minutes. If your plans live along the rail lines, the train wins on cost, parking, and stress.
